Innovation and Inspiration at OCE Discovery 2017

Innovation and Inspiration at OCE Discovery 2017

As we entered the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, I looked to my side and caught a glimpse of a woman in a casual business suit, banner in hand, running towards the entrance of the discovery showcase floor. People were already setting up their booths, shaking hands, and asking questions at the surrounding booths.

Once our team signed in and got lanyards, we headed towards our "Home of the Future" section to set-up. In our section, we met and spoke with some great people from the Screen Industries Research and Training Centre, Ripple Farms, and Nanoleaf.

We passed by regional and academic partners with OCE like IBM and OCAD College, as well as health technology groups and digital media companies. The Ontario Farmers Association was located by the front of the floor, heavily armed with ferrero rochers.

On Day 1, the CEO of OCE made opening remarks and welcomed everyone to the event. Premier Kathleen Wynne was thankful to be there, giving credit to the innovative technologies being showcased in addition to announcing a new partnership between OCE and IBM.

Once the showfloor opened, we met a number of students, manufacturers, and start-ups who came to our booth, asking us about the devices on the table and how our data analytics works. The talent theatre was located near our booth and around 3:15pm, we were able to catch some of the young entrepreneurs making their pitches.

Day 2 brought even more people to the showfloor and our booth. We were honored to watch Gina McCarthy, former EPA Administrator under President Obama, take the stage and fight for the importance and urgency of climate change.

For us, OCE Discovery 2017 was a success. To be showcased among more than 500 innovative exhibitors was an honour and we are looking forward to next year's event!
